Church planting

ZOM at present has one congregation in the town of Chinhoyi and in the rural area three congregations named by the area they are located in: Hunnington Christian Church, Biri Christian Church, and Zurungowe Christian Church. Each of these four congregations began because of ministry had already started in the area.

Grace Christian Church had its beginnings in the Student Support Program.  As the number of students on the program continued to increase the need arose to have oversight in the students church attendance and character development.

In 2004 Grace Christian Church was established. It maintains a preaching elder-ship that consists of Mark Begarly, Simba Pisirai, and Mr. Chando Jr.  This church was established in 2004 and many of the students from the support program have now grown and continue to be members serving in the congregation.

Grace has leadership and training seminars for the congregation, as well as, a New Members class.  In Zimbabwe it is not uncommon for people to jump from church to church depending on the situation they find themselves in.  And unfortunately many of the native religious practices  like ancestral worship and witchcraft still find their way into some of the Protestant denominations in area.  We have no way of knowing what a person as been taught or have been exposed to.  The Leadership Seminars and New Members classes are to help the congregation to understand the roles of the leadership, the role of the church body, and the basic beliefs held by the church.

Knowing the ideas and doctrines being taught in the area, these are met head on in these classes so that there is no confusion on where Grace CC takes a stand.

We believe that part of our work as missionaries is to train the men in the preaching ministry so that they can carry the gospel to their own people with skills developed by God. We look for people who have been given the heart for ministry by the Lord and once we see that, we then work at developing their skills through education and practical application in the ministry that the Lord has laid upon their heart.

RURAL CHURCHES

Biri & Zurungowe Churches also began because of the Student Support Program. The Head Masters of those schools in their respective areas invited ZOM to come in and teach morals and ethics and then the invitation to start a church in each of the schools.

Hunnington CC has full time staff that live on the grounds of the camp and was already serving the community.

Mr. Chando Sr. is the resident Evangelist/Minister. He has a passion for the people in the rural and serves as the minister for the three congregations; traveling and ministering to them each Sunday. It is a hard place to minister in as it is isolated from the town and is targeted by government corruption and so can also be quite dangerous at times.

The rural churches experience a lot of hardship as it is also the hotbed for ancestral worship and witchcraft. The congregations experience growth and loss like the tides of the ocean. A reading of the New Testament, one can find a lot of the similar issues that the disciples faced when expanding the Good News to non-Jewish lands.
